Since 1908, the Sewanee Civic Association and its precursors have believed in the power of area citizens to help sustain community projects and programs. The goal is to help citizens by funding the community, which leads to a stronger quality of life for all.

The Sewanee Community Chest, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, supports youth sports, outreach, and many community and educational programs in the tri-county area. For a majority of these groups, 20 percent or more of the Community Chest funds are used to maintain their yearly budgets. A majority of the funding is used to help low-income families. Some organizations would not exist without continued community support.

For example: $25 will spay/neuter one animal through the Animal Harbor program; $50 will help to buy camping gear for two Scouts; $75 will help pay one month of maintenance expenses for the Sewanee Community Center; $100 will help defray the cost of fireworks for the annual 4th of July celebration; $250 will help pay for four days worth of food at the Sewanee Senior Citizens Center; $500 will help five Tigershark swimmers with registration fees; and $1,000 will help to pay for Sewanee Elementary teachers’ professional development.

If you have not done so, donate to the Community Chest today. Your donation does matter and helps to keep the community strong and vital. Through Community Chest funding, these organizations help those caught in the cycle of poverty, improve lives through outreach and community initiatives, and provide support for children with a variety of programs.

Send your donation to Sewanee Community Chest, P.O. Box 99, Sewanee, TN 37375.  Pledges, payroll deductions, and donations made in honor of, or in memory of a loved one are also encouraged. Contact us for more information.

Why can I not donate on line? Am I missing something? Setting up donation via PayPal makes sense to me. Thanks!

    • Peggy, you can! Please click on the “PayPal donate” button at the bottom of the “Donate” page (just above the Amazon Smile button). Thanks!

My bad! I was looking for a way for an amount to be automatically deducted each month on PayPal, but it appears that you can only do it all at one time. I’m very bad about having to do things each month, so an automatic set-up, as I had with payroll deduction, would be fabulous. Sorry for the confusion!
